1th series: The animal kingdom

                                                    Many times, on painted eggs, you can find funny animal faces. When                                                     you look at them you think you are transported to the ancient Egipt,                                                     where, at every step, you can find this kind of faces on the                                                                     monuments. The faces of some animals, which you can find on painted                                                     eggs , presents some unusual shapes; other animals are showed                                                            almost naturally. According to what it represents, every model has it’s name; so: one is “the fly”, another “the fish”, a third one the goats, the rooster, the horse and so on. Peasant woman usually take  the motifs for the painted eggs or for any other home industry from nature. So, we can find parts of animals bodies: the “goat’s nails”,  the “duck’s foot”, the “rooster’s comb” , the “rabbit’s ears”, the deer’s horns, the swallow ’s tale. The crow’s feather, the ox’s eye, and many others.

2nd: series: Vegetal motifs:

                                                   

                                                    Plants have, naturally – as while as they are painted most easily - a very                                                     important role in egg painting. The leafs of the tree and the trees, the                                                     flowers, the useful plants, and even fruits offer to the villagers many                                                     motifs. So, we can find on eggs: the fir’s leaf, the apple’s flower,                                            the oak’s leaf, the pear’s flowers, the trefoil’s leaf, the wild strawberry’s leaf, dandelion, wheat, the rice, ear, the stick and so on. We can also find fantasy flowers. One of them is the “Lady’s Flower”

3^rd series: The tool’s motif

                         

                                       Women which pain eggs, also use household objects, which are easy to                                              remember and to reproduce: shovel, rake, hoe, the fork, the wagon’s weal, the                                        mill’s weal, cask, leather, the walking stick , the bells and so on. Obvious , you                                        can not complete all the combinations

4^th series: Diverse

 

                                       On painted eggs we can find drawings that would be hard to introduce in one                                        of the tree previous series. These drawings are: bag and priest’s girdle, the                                        fingers, the rainbow’s coil, winding roads. We must notice that every peasant                                        woman  paints at least one egg with the Ester cross which is made on Ester eggs in many wais. An egg, which seems to be made by an artist hand, shows us a beautiful Easter cross , both ends whit faces of angels.

It is specific that most of the ornaments have names. But it would be a waste of time if somebody would try to gather together and describe all the ornaments completely. If you ask a woman where did she get from the  models for the eggs she made, she would answer: “we paint them from our thoughts”. Still, we can find some tipical models which are the same every year. These are the models that we will try to clasificate in the following series
